ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (AEI) was established in 2010 with an initial intake of 60 students. Instrumentation Engineering is a specialized branch that focuses on the measurement, automation, and control of process variables in production systems. It integrates principles from electrical, electronics, mechanical, chemical, and computing domains to develop efficient and reliable automated processes.
Instrumentation engineers play a vital role in industries with automated systems—such as chemical, manufacturing, and process plants—by ensuring improved productivity, reliability, and stability. The department’s curriculum is designed to provide students with a balanced blend of industrial exposure and strong technical foundations, enabling them to meet contemporary industry standards and excel in diverse technological domains.
The department places strong emphasis on professional training and value-based education, preparing students to serve the nation as skilled and competent professionals. Through a well-structured academic system complemented by co-curricular activities, the department provides students with opportunities to acquire in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge technologies and avenues for career advancement.
Regular workshops, technical seminars, and training programs are conducted to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of both students and faculty members. The department also encourages and sponsors faculty members for higher studies and research. Additionally, students benefit from hands-on training and value-added courses delivered by external experts on various instrumentation platforms, bridging the gap between theory and industrial practice.
Research Areas
Department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation engineering, being one of the core department in VITAM, is actively engaged in research activities and publications. Presently, some of the broader research areas of the department are:
- Microcontroller and Microprocessor
- Semiconductors
- Serial and Parallel Hardware Interfacing
- Circuit Design
Beyond Academics
In alignment with VITAM’s commitment to holistic development, the Department of Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering actively participates in social initiatives, cultural programs, and sports activities.
A student-led departmental club, supported by faculty members, works voluntarily for social welfare and community upliftment. The department also upholds a tradition of organizing inter-departmental and institute-level cultural events, encouraging leadership, teamwork, and creative expression among students.
Students of the department have consistently demonstrated excellence beyond academics, securing several prizes in sports and earning numerous laurels at inter-collegiate events, reflecting the department’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded professionals.
