About The Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2008, coinciding with the inception of the institute. The department currently has an intake capacity of 120 students at the undergraduate level. It is headed by Prof. Dr. Prabhu Prasad Mishra, who possesses more than 25 years of teaching experience. The department is well supported by a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members, many of whom hold M.Tech. degrees and possess valuable industry experience.
The department houses one Computer Laboratory and six state-of-the-art laboratories, each managed by experienced faculty members and skilled laboratory assistants. These facilities provide students with hands-on exposure to practical and experimental aspects of mechanical engineering.
In 2014, the department introduced the M.Tech program in Machine Design with an intake capacity of 18 students, adding another milestone to its academic growth.

As one of the core departments of VITAM, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is actively involved in research and publication activities. The major research areas include:

Beyond Academics
The department emphasizes holistic student development in line with VITAM’s vision of nurturing responsible and well-rounded individuals. Students and faculty members of the department actively participate in social outreach programs, cultural activities, and sports events.
A student-led Mechanical Engineering Club has been formed to engage in social welfare initiatives and community support activities. The department also has a tradition of organizing inter-departmental and institution-level cultural events, fostering teamwork and creativity among students.
Students from the department have consistently excelled in sports, securing several awards and accolades. Notably, the Mechanical Engineering Department has won the VITAM Cricket Championship Trophy for two consecutive years, and its students have brought numerous laurels from inter-collegiate competitions.
